Principal’s Message

Dear Students, Parents, Guardians and Friends,

Welcome back to another school year; 2020 at Sirius College, Ibrahim Dellal Campus. To our new families, we welcome you and we hope that you and your child/children have settled well into our school.

Staff Updates

We are pleased to announce that we have a new Executive Principal, Mr Ahmet Yamakoglu, who has replaced our previous Executive Principal, Mr Serdar Takimoglu. We look forward to many successful years ahead under the wisdom and guidance of Mr Yamakoglu.

We send a warm welcome to our new staff members:

Mr Wesley Hall - Secondary Boys’ Coordinator and Humanities Teacher
Mrs Seyma Filiz – Girls’ Pastoral Care and Wellbeing Coordinator and Science Teacher
Ms Nurdan Karakulak - Science Teacher
Mr Serkan Karaosmanoglu - Maths Teacher
Ms Vicky Tzourtzouklis - 2B Classroom Teacher
Mr Peter Zaitzev - 5B Classroom Teacher
Ms Merve Erol - School Counsellor
Ms Fatma Narli - Food Technology Technician & Campus Maintenance

I would also like to congratulate Ms Kate Pryce (2A classroom teacher) on her new role as Lower Primary Coordinator.

Shade Cover

Most of you will have noticed the new shade cover that has been installed above the basketball court. This addition to our school has certainly been long-awaited and was the location of our first whole-school assembly for the year. With this added sun protection, our students have more options for play areas while always being protected from the elements. This area also provides us with an additional space for whole-school assemblies and events.

Garden Area

We have started planting in our new garden area near the back fence. This will enable our primary students hands-on experience in caring for and maintaining the garden and one day, potentially planting some vegetables and plants themselves.

Food Technology Room

Our Food Technology room is now completed. This room not only serves the secondary students who are studying Food Technology as an elective subject, but is also available for all year levels to use. I know that our teachers are certainly looking forward to incorporating some aspects of food technology into their lessons and we are confident the children will enjoy developing their cooking skills.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Our school is closely monitoring the Coronavirus situation and will continue to follow the guidance and instruction of various Australian Government agencies, such as the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Education and Training. We continue to maintain and encourage good hygiene habits and educate our students about appropriate strategies for hygiene and safety (i.e. covering mouths when coughing or sneezing, washing hands thoroughly and frequent use of hand sanitiser). Parents please be mindful that if your child/children are unwell, they should be kept at home and not return to school until they have fully recovered.

School Drop-off/Pick-up and Traffic

Once again, a reminder for all. While we try our best to minimise the traffic problems in our school car park before and after school, it is impossible to achieve this without your cooperation. For the sake of harmony within the school community, I would like to appeal to all parents and guardians to please observe the car park etiquette and be respectful of the school rules when dropping off and picking up your children:

Firstly, drop-off/pick-up bays are strictly for that purpose. Secondly, please do not park or queue in front of the school gate. As advised, the school car park gates will be open from 3.20pm. If you persist in parking or queuing at the gate, you are putting yourself at risk as well as creating a hazard to other road users. Thirdly, the speed limit within the school car park is 10km/h. We expect this speed limit to be adhered to, and in addition to this, it is expected that all drivers follow instructions given by staff on duty.

Please bear in mind that STUDENTS’ SAFETY is MOST IMPORTANT. We truly seek your understanding and patience to ensure that the school car park remains a safe and pleasant environment that functions smoothly and effectively.

I wish all of our students, families and staff a very successful 2020.

Warm Regards,

Halil Ibrahim
